TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (WTXL) - Florida A & M University is taking the initiative to promote a healthier student body through a program called Get Fit Famu.

Students on famu's campus are working towards healthier minds and bodies thanks to one student's initiative for a healthier community. Jacoria Borders came up with Get Fit Famu after seeing a need for health education in the local community.

The program offers ways for students to be active through interactive activities. Some of the activities include rock climbing, zumba, circuit training, and aerobic training.

The campaign has a different health theme every month. October is breast cancer awareness, November is cholesterol, and December is diabetes. There are seven events in the fall and seven in the spring that all revolve around these topics.

Through donations, Get Fit Famu will also be offering $3,500 in scholarship money for this academic year.
