VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - State Rep. Amy Carter (R-Valdosta) announced Wednesday that she will resign from her legislative position to take a job with the Technical College System of Georgia.

Carter, whose resignation becomes effective Dec. 31, 2017, was elected as House District 175's first female representative in the House of Representatives in 2006. Her district includes Brooks County and parts of Lowndes and Thomas counties.

She will become the executive director of advancement at the Technical College System of Georgia.

Carter, a classroom teacher for more than 20 years, said she devoted herself to educating and empowering students.

"While leaving the classroom and my legislative position was an extremely difficult decision to make," she said,  "I will now have the opportunity to extend that impact to more than 130,000 TCSG students across our state."
