TALLAHASSEE, FL. (WTXL) - According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, every 9 seconds, a woman in the U.S. is beaten or abused.

With Domestic Violence Awareness Month right around the corner, many organizations are raising awareness.

A group on Florida State's campus is hoping to make an impact in the local community by supporting the refuge house in Tallahassee, an organization that serves all people affected by domestic violence.

The Sociology Graduate Student Union at FSU is holding a collection drive all this week for the Refuge House, asking people to donate supplies including pillows, towels, and non-perishable foods.

The Student Union says, they try to help out the refuge house, as often as they can.

"With the refuge house in particular, it's usually ongoing. We like to give them as much time as we can and get the resources that they need. Last year, we were able to raise some money for them."

You can drop off donations for that drive at the sociology office in the Bellamy Building or at the scholars and fellows house on Florida State's campus.
