VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) -- It's the most common cancer of all, according to the American Cancer Society, and if it's not discovered early it could be deadly.

Skin cancer accounts for more than 3.5 million cases in the United States each year. In hopes to raise awareness for this disease South Georgia Medical Center's Pearlman Cancer Center is offering free skin cancer screenings.

Local dermatologists Dr. William R. Howard, Dr. Betsy P. Thacker, and Dr. John A. Cole will conduct the screenings.

The American Cancer Society says to prevent possible skin cancer you should limit or avoid exposure to the sun during the midday hours, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. They also suggest you cover as much of your skin as possible.

If you would like to register for a free skin cancer screening appointment you can visit www.sgmc.org/events or call 229-333-1074.
