FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is inviting the community to join them for a special dedication for a man that lost his life saving a child.

Deputies are inviting the community to gather on Nov. 20 for a special dedication to Bruce Maynor Jr. Mayor went missing from St. George Island after being pulled into rough surf.

The tragic incident happened April 30, 2017 when Maynor jumped into the water to save a 12-year-old child, who family members said was a friend of the family.

Maynor was able to give the child to someone else before he was pulled under the water. His body was recovered three days later.

To honor his memory, FCSO has decided to "enhance" the beach warning flags system by adding a sign dedicated to Maynor, with the hopes that beachgoers will be aware of dangerous water conditions.

Franklin County deputies are inviting the public to join them on Nov. 20 at St. Georgia Island for the dedication. The event starts a 11 a.m.
