(WTXL) - Food stamps are coming early for several local counties anticipating heavy impact from Hurricane Michael.

To help families prepare for Hurricane Michael, the Department of Children and Families has ordered an early release of SNAP benefits.

Current SNAP customers who normally receive benefits October 10-28 will receive their benefits by 8 a.m. EDT on Tuesday in the following counties:  Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Gulf, Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, Taylor, Dixie.

Officials say early release has been approved for coastal counties that are expected to be more severely impacted by Hurricane Michael.

There's no word if other counties may be added to this list. We're reaching out to officials for more information.
