SARASOTA, Fla. - A plan to dredge Big Pass to re-nourish Lido Key is causing concern along one of the best beaches in America.

The Sarasota Herald Tribune reports that the Army Corps of Engineers project could impact Siesta Beach and the county park at the south end of Lido Key.

The Corps wants to take the sand from a Big Pass shoal and pump it onto Lido Key, where beach erosion is affecting several condominiums. Many believe that shoal protects Siesta Beach.

The Siesta Key Association will host question and answer session with the project manager this Thursday evening at St. Boniface Episcopal Church on Siesta Key.
