TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - According to government statistics, the unemployment rate for veterans is 5 point 8 percent.

As of 2014, 570 thousand veterans were without jobs.

That's why Florida A&M University is targeting veterans in particular, as they work to encourage entrepreneurship in the Capital City.

A new fifteen week program will offer participants face to face training, and hands on experience in business to nurture skills that are essential in launching a successful start up.

The classes are open to all veterans in the Big Bend.

Thursday, FAMU's Small Business Development Centre held an open house to introduce the program to the public.

Following successful completion of the educational phase, participants will receive ongoing mentorship from Florida business leaders and consultants in the area.
