Update: Nelson Townsend has been named the new FAMU Interim Athletic Director.
Nelson is on the President’s Alumni Advisory Board on Athletics that was created when Mangum took over as president. According to the schools website the, " This group of hand-selected alumni will serve as a liaison between the president and the athletic director to provide strategic counsel and guidance on various matters pertaining to the general function and development of all FAMU Athletic Department programs."
Nelson has served as an Athletic Director for several schools, including FAMU.
TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Florida A&M President President Elmira Mangum will make a major announcement today at 3:30 p.m.
Mangum said that the school's athletic director, Kellen Winslow, has turned in his resignation.
Today's news conference is supposed to address changes impacting FAMU’s athletic programs.
