TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Florida A&M University is preparing for a new season of baseball action.

The Rattlers' baseball season opens February 14 with a three game weekend at home against Naval Academy.

The team is lead this year by new head coach Jamey Shouppe. He's making his FAMU athletics debut as head coach after spending a little more than two decades as an assistant coach with Florida State University.

New head coach Jamey Shouppe appeared Tuesday on WTXL ABC27 Sunrise to talk about the new season, including his focus on recruitment and building player skills and the fan base.

Coach Shouppe also talked about some of the renovations happening at the Rattlers' stadium, including new batting cages.

Ahead of this weekend's season opener, the team will be hosting their inaugural FAMU Baseball First Pitch Dinner. The event will be held on Thursday, February 13 at the Moon located at 1105 East Lafayette Street. Tickets are $25 per person, or $300 per table of 6. Each table will also enjoy the evening with two players.

Tickets can be purchased by calling (800) 843-0788.
