PANACEA, Fla. (WTXL) - Nurse sharks from the Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory will be making their way back to Florida after being evacuated ahead of Hurricane Irma.

The lab says that their sharks were evacuated to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, Ga. in preparation for Hurricane Irma.

Frank Brown with the Flint River Aquarium in Albany, Ga. transported two of the three nurse sharks to Atlanta in a holding tank.

The lab says one shark stayed behind at the marine lab because there was only room for two in the holding tank.

Their resident loggerhead turtle "Lil Herc" (who is blind) also had to evacuate ahead of the storm and was transported to went to Gulf World in Panama City by the Florida Wildlife Control.

The sharks will be returning to the aquarium on Monday, September 18th.
