VALDOSTA GA.--  The Valdosta Police Department received a report of an inappropriate touching incident April 28th, 2016.

The victim reported that she went to the South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Room seeking treatment for a medical condition and while being examined by a staff member, she was touched inappropriately.

At the completion of the department's investigation, an arrest warrant for misdemeanor sexual battery was issued for Jay Johnson.

Detectives say Jay Johnson,48, voluntarily turned himself in to Valdosta Police on May 18 and was taken into custody at the Lowndes County Jail.

"The South Georgia Medical Center Administration to include SGMC Security have been very helpful and fully cooperative in this case and once the victim reported the incident, law enforcement was immediately notified and an investigation was initiated. Although it is unfortunate that the incident occurred, the situation was handled professionally and the offender was treated like everyone else", stated Chief Brian Childress.

The South Georgia Medical Center says Jay Johnson has been terminated from his position.
