VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) -- Fourteen animals were rescued from suspected dog fighting in Valdosta Monday night.

According to police, they responded to a home om the 500 block of 2nd Avenue for a domestic dispute. While they were on scene a woman at the home told investigators that her husband was involved in dog fighting.

Officers said they found 9 dogs and 5 puppies in the backyard of the home. Many of the adult dogs had injuries, said police. The animals did not have access to food, water, or shelter, said police.

All of the animals were taken to the Lowndes County Animal Shelter for treatment.

At this time police have not filed charges but they are investigating the dog fighting and animal abuse claims. Police said that there is also a city ordinance that prohibits that many dogs at one home.

Anyone having any further information regarding this crime or any other crime is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145 or can remain anonymous at 229-293-3091.
