Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee investigating priest following allegations

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee says a priest has been removed pending an investigation into unspecified accusations being made by 'certain adults.'

The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is investigating unspecified allegations against Monsignor James Flaherty.

Bishop William A. Wack sent a statement to WTXL regarding Flaherty's removal saying:

"Upon receipt of allegations by certain adults regarding Monsignor James Flaherty, Bishop Wack removed him from his position on August 24, 2018. The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is in the process of investigating the matter. The Diocese takes these concerns very seriously and is undertaking a thorough investigation."

Officials say there are policies and procedures in place to address matters like these. 

According to the The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee's website, Flaherty was in charge of tribunal, lay formation, and continuing education for priests.
