PALM BEACH, Florida (AP) — Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is telling an influential anti-tax group that he opposes Common Core education standards, putting him at odds with fellow presidential prospect Jeb Bush a day after Bush endorsed the standards to the same audience.

Cruz is among six potential presidential candidates speaking at the Club for Growth's annual winter meeting this week in Palm Beach, Florida.

In his remarks Friday night, Cruz described Common Core as "national standards being dictated from Washington." The voluntary math and language arts standards were produced by a bipartisan group of governors and adopted by more than 40 states.

Cruz says "there is no remedy when they are dictating what's being taught to your kids."
