MIAMI (AP) - Miami-Dade commissioners agreed to consider joining in on a national trend of using police stations as "safe havens" for people buying and selling on Craigslist and other online classified sites.

The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1zItA0b ) reports Commissioner Sally Heyman on Tuesday cited a string of transactions gone bad across South Florida, including a 17-year-old who was robbed at gunpoint in October when he tried to sell sneakers.

Heyman's proposal calls for designating four police station parking lots as safe havens.

Last summer, Broward County began using a police station in Weston and Boca Raton has also launched a similar program. Coral Springs police posted a Facebook message this week urging people to use its parking lot for Craigslist transactions.

Commissioner Barbara Jordan didn't vote against the proposal, but urged caution.
