MACON, Ga. (AP) - A federal judge ordered a Georgia sheriff to resign from office after he was accused of attacking inmates.

The Telegraph newspaper reports that the judge also set a $25,000 bond for Wilcox County Sheriff Stacy Bloodsworth Tuesday.

Also facing charges are his son Austin Bloodsworth; former Wilcox County jailer Casey Owens; and former inmate Willie James Caruthers. Prosecutors say the men beat inmates and conspired to lie to cover up the assaults.

The judge says the sheriff will be monitored electronically, have a curfew and undergo testing for alcohol and drug use and can't have access to guns while on bond.

A $25,000 bond was also set for Austin Bloodsworth and for Caruthers.

Owens didn't appear in court. It wasn't clear whether he has been taken into custody.
