ROME, Ga. (AP) - Four Georgia inmates who say they were brutally beaten by prison guards while they were handcuffed have settled their lawsuit against the Department of Corrections guards.
The Southern Center for Human Rights say the lawsuit was filed in July 2011 and was jointly dismissed by the parties on Friday.
The center says the settlement includes a total payment of $93,000 by the defendants and requires the state to provide certain medical care to the injured inmates.
The lawsuit filed by Miracle Nwakanma, Cornelius Spencer, Eric Towns, and Gregory Haines claims the attacks took place in August 2010 at Hays State Prison in northwest Georgia.
The alleged abuse against the four inmates was part of a list of complaints that prodded prisoners to coordinate a strike in December seeking better conditions.
