WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Wakulla County residents now have a more convenient way to get a concealed weapons license.

The service is now offered by the county tax collector's office, in partnership with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Since late July, the office has processed around 40 licenses. The process usually takes half an hour for new applicants.

They simply complete a form, get their fingerprints and picture taken, and pay for the license.

The office says it's a much-needed service being brought to Wakulla County.

"They've been offering the certification for quite some time. So, now, it's offering an opportunity for people that are in Wakulla to come to Wakulla Tax Collector's Office to get their concealed weapons license," said Jarrod Richardson, a concealed weapons agent. "They're concerned with the way things are going and the crime rate, especially in our community, that they should have the opportunity to be armed to protect themselves."

The license is accepted in 36 states. The office recommends setting up an appointment.
