TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida State's president John Thrasher suspended all fraternities and sororities indefinitely following the death of 20-year-old Andrew Coffey last Friday.

During the suspension, Greek members will be allowed to remain as residents in the house and will continue to have meal service.

WTXL spoke to a Chi Omega member who told me her sorority's president, along with other sorority and fraternity presidents, first heard about the suspension over the weekend during a meeting called by the division of student affairs. The office of fraternity & sorority life must approve and be present for any new member initiations or standard meetings.

However, members will not be allowed to hold new member events, chapter meetings, or chapter events. This includes chapter organized tailgates, socials, philanthropies, retreats, and intramurals.

With Homecoming just 2 weeks away, Greek life will not be allowed to participate in the event or preparations, including pomping, skit night or Spear-It Night.

Also, Greek participation in Market Wednesday, which is held in the union each week where students set up tables and perform dances, is also prohibited.

President Thrasher says for the suspension to end, the student body needs to come together and form ideas to find a new culture for Greek life at the university.
