TALLAHASSEE, FL(WTXL) - President Obama approved Florida's request for federal disaster assistance following Hurricane Hermine on Wednesday.

The President ordered federal aid to help recovery efforts in the areas affected by the hurricane from Aug. 31 to Sept. 11.

This action makes funding available to affected people, businesses, and homes in Citrus, Dixie, Hernando, Hillsborough, Leon, Levy, Pasco, and Pinellas counties.

The help can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help the recovery process, according to a press release from the White House.

Federal funding also is available to local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Hurricane Hermine.

This funding for facility repair extends to the counties of Citrus, Dixie, Franklin, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Pasco, Pinellas, Suwannee, Taylor, and Wakulla.

FEMA are continuing to look at damaged areas and said that additional counties may be able to receive help.

Residents and business owners who suffered losses can begin applying for assistance Thursday by registering online here or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).
