TPD: Foul play ruled out in 19-year-old TCC student's death

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department says that a 19-year-old Tallahassee Community College student who unexpectedly died on Nov. 6 passed away from a "medical issue."

The Tallahassee Police Department responded to West Ten Apartments on Nov.6 for an unconscious female, later identified as 19-year-old Jessie Melcolm.

TPD and Emergency responders immediately provided medical attention to Melcolm, who was later transported to a local hospital for treatment. The student passed away that afternoon.

Police say their investigation of the student's death revealed foul play was not a factor in her death. It was determined Melcolm died of a medical issue.

WTXL reached out to the Florida Department of Health to determine exactly what "medical issue" the student passed away from. They say an official cause of death has not yet been released by a medical examiner:

"At this time the medical examiner has not released an official cause of death concerning Jesse Melcolm. The department continues to work closely with the ME until a determination can be determined. As this is an ongoing investigation the department cannot release any other details at this time per F.S. 381.0031 (6)."
