BELLEAIR, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida police officer shot and wounded a man who spooked bank employees by acting suspiciously.

The Tampa Bay Times reports employees at a Fifth Third Bank in Belleair called police Monday and reported a man entered the branch with a bulge in his pocket.

Belleair Police Chief Bill Sohl later identified the man as 28-year-old Jamaal Bishop. He says Bishop left the Tampa area bank, and a Pinellas County sheriff's deputy and a Belleair police officer spotted him.

Sohl says Bishop pushed Belleair officer Roy Olsen and then fired a weapon, and didn't injure the officers. The chief says Olsen, the deputy and two other officers chased Bishop on foot, and Olsen shot Bishop. Officials said Bishop was in stable condition at a hospital.
