TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--An athlete is trying to do something that's never been done before, cross the country solo twice in a year.

Chris Nicholas is cycling across the country. He's covered more than 2,700 miles since he reached Tallahassee. He has more than 6,000 more miles to go.

The goal is to raise $25,000 along the way for the Wounded Warrior Project, Make a Wish Foundation and Saint Jude Children's Hospital.

"Crossing the country solo you get a chance to meet a lot of people that have been touched by somebody who's been in the military or a child that's been in the hospital who doesn't have long to live so raising funds and raising awareness for these three charities is important to me and it gives me the ability to give back to those who are really in need," said Nicholas

Nicholas says if you've lost a loved one. He says he will ride in their honor. Chris Nicholas heads to Pensacola next. Check out his journey at www.CrossingTheUS.com
