TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Trees have been a big topic since the Hurricane passed through in October.
Many fell due to the storm, and many were cut down after the storm to avoid them from falling.
One Tallahassee family decided to find a unique way to protect their home from one of the trees in the yard falling.
WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live Tuesday morning to tell about the direction one homeowner decided to take.
The homeowner, Ellen Davis, said that "Anytime you can create beauty out of destruction, it's an awesome thing to do."
Her home was spared following Hurricane Michael in October, but she decided to take precaution in case she's not so lucky in the future.
"We knew that the oak tree in front of our house was going to have to come down and I just happened to say that I wish I knew somebody that does chainsaw art," she said.
Meet chainsaw artist Spencer Hunter.
"For me and carving, I like to take away and give life to something that someone else would burn or cut down an get rid of," he said.
After some brainstorming, Hunter and Davis settled on the angelic new life they would give the old oak tree.
"I call her spirit ascending," Davis said. "So it's kind of like an earth spirit coming out of the tree."
The tree sculptor said that "I try to give someone something that relates to them. Something that represents them in a way so it reflects back to who they are because that tree has been a part of their life for a long time."
Mixing the classical music coming through his headphone with the vibrations of the chainsaw, Hunter gives new life to trees on the verge of destruction.
"It's kind of like Michaelangelo," he said. "You take away the bad parts and the good parts prevail."
Creative by nature, but a peace of mind for Ellen Davis and her family.
