TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The City of Tallahassee says some cemeteries within the city are running out of burial space, so they're hoping to expand.

Out of the five city cemeteries, only one has available space. The city says Southside Cemetery has about 800 burial spaces remaining. Because of this, city officials are looking to expand Southside Cemetery, as well as Oakland Cemetery.

Two plans will be introduced at March 25th's city commission meeting. One is considered more of a short term plan, which would involve funding up to $170,000 from the Perpetual Care Trust Fund to expand the two cemeteries. The other option would involve developing a plan for a new cemetery. The plan says an advisory committee would be appointed by the city manager, and they would evaluate potential locations as well as deal with the financial aspects of the development.

Expanding the two cemeteries would add roughly 1,800 spaces, which would last anywhere from seven to ten years.
