TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Helping the most vulnerable age group recover from Hurricane Michael, that's the goal behind AARP Florida's new funding.

AARP passed down 10 grants of $75,000 to eldercare organizations in the Panhandle.

One of them, Area Agency on Aging for North Florida. Executive Director, Lisa Bretz, says their area of focus is helping older adults get temporary housing or relocate if rebuilding isn't an option.

"We have adults that are living on limited income and deposit fees are rather high, so even to find a new rental property, help pay those deposit fees that would otherwise be beyond their means to cover," said Bretz. "First month rent, last month rent, deposits for utilities, even setting up basic needs in the home."

Bretz said this new funding allows them to help the individual's who are in the most need regardless of their situation.
