TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - For one family, graduating from FAMU is a tradition spanning multiple generations.

Fraternal twins KaDarius & LaDarius Gardner are both joining the FAMU-ly this weekend.

Family members who have graduated from FAMU in the past include their grandmother's two daughters, five grandchildren and one niece. KaDarius and LaDarius say their grandmother, Shirley Mae Ashe, never had the resources to go to FAMU when she was their age.

Instead, she instilled the importance of historically black universities in each of them, working tirelessly to provide a better future for her family.

"FAMU has been amazing to me. It was a great experience, I have no regrets, I've done everything that I pretty much wanted to do. I came here to become this new person and that's what I did," said KaDarius Gardner. "In a way, I feel like I was kind of doing this for my grandmother, because at the time, she really couldn't do it. So I feel like a legacy lives on through us."

Commencement ceremonies for FAMU's fall 2017 semester start Friday night and continue Saturday morning.
