Joint Proclamation of the City of Tallahassee & Leon County

PROCLAMATION OF ZERO SNOW TOLERANCE IN TALLAHASSEE/LEON COUNTY

Whereas, the City of Tallahassee and Leon County are proud to be Florida’s capital region; and

Whereas, our community has been widely recognized as an “All America City” for the second time in modern history; and

Whereas, our diverse community is not only the political capital of Florida, but also the capital of the Quality of Life in Florida; and

Whereas, our community’s geography allows for a delightful change of seasons – among Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring; and

Whereas, we are always ready to welcome visitors, new residents and new businesses to share this wonderful community with us; and

Whereas, we especially will welcome the 2016 winner of the “2016 Why I’d Love to Retire in Tallahassee Florida” contest sponsored by Choose Tallahassee, a community-based nonprofit organization; and

Whereas, overly cold Winters accompanied by frost, snow, slush and dreary days and weeks for extended

time are commonplace in other regions but are surely not welcomed here; and

Whereas, snow in measurable accumulations has only fallen in Tallahassee seven times in recorded history; and

Whereas, we love that wintry snow falls in every state in the continental U.S. except for Florida; and

Whereas, we want to keep it that way.

NOW THEREFORE,, the City Commission and the Board of County Commissioners hereby jointly proclaim that the City of Tallahassee and Leon County governments impose an absolute ban on snow in the capital region of Florida forevermore. Even a flurry must scurry away. No Snow is the law of our land. As in the mythical “Camelot,” now, “…there’s a legal limit to the snow here.”

IT IS FURTHER PROCLAIMED that snow is officially not welcome in the City of Tallahassee and in Leon County, and we are adopting a Zero Snow approach to Winter.
