Northwestern Caribbean tropical disturbance (Sun. morning; courtesy NOAA/NESDIS)
An area of disturbed weather, causing rain and storms, is taking shape in the far northwest Caribbean.

A cluster of moisture is beginning to take better shape, with a flare-up of showers, rain, and thunderstorms around a broad low-pressure circulation.

This will be the source of higher rain chances for most of the Florida peninsula, and local rain chances may also be impacted.  A strong cold front will enter the region late Tuesday producing the main thrust of local rain and thunderstorm action.  Some moisture influence is possible from the developing Gulf system, but for the time being, it appears as if the cold front will curve the Gulf low more toward the peninsula by midweek.

Conditions are somewhat favorable for the Caribbean low to continue development as it reaches the Gulf in the next 48 hours.

We in the Storm Team Weather center will continue to monitor the progress and movement of this system and will provide continuous information and forecast updates as needed.
