Tallahassee, Fla (WTXL) -- The Florida Department of Children and Families Community Alliance along with Whole Child Leon are teaming up with surrounding communities to help stop a rising trend in child abuse.

In the past year FDC&F has intervened in 480 verified cases of child abuse in Franklin, Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, Liberty and Wakulla Counties.

Advocates say the number of cases as well as the severity of them is concerning.

The group will meet every three months to discuss possible ways to intervene and educate families.

If you suspect a child or elderly person is being abused call the Florida Abuse Hotline, 1-800-962-2873.
