GA Prescribed Fire Awareness Week, Feb. 5-11, 2012

Governor Nathan Deal has designated by official proclamation the first week in February to be observed annual as Prescribed Fire Awareness Week for Georgia in recognition of land managers who protect and maintain the state's forest resources. In 2012, this will be February 5-11.

Governor Deal will sign the 2012 proclamation on Wednesday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m., in his office. The Governor will be joined by members of the Georgia Prescribed Fire Council (GAPFC). The Fire Council works with Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) and other cooperators to encourage the exchange of information, techniques and experiences among practitioners of prescribed burning in Georgia. According to GFC, "On average, Georgia prescribe burns about 1.5 million acres of forest lands each year."
