TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Canada's ambassador is urging the
United States to expand the preclearance of tourists from his
country so they can get to Florida in time to have a beer at lunch.
Ambassador Gary Doer said on Tuesday that more preclearance
"will mean more tourists having more beer earlier."
The wisecracking ambassador also touted a proposed oil pipeline
from Canada to the United States at an international trade
gathering sponsored by the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
Doer took a playful shot at pipeline foe Darryl Hannah. He noted
he was on a panel in Copenhagen with the actress who says she's
completely off fossil fuels.
The ambassador then wondered how long her kayak ride was from
Hollywood to Denmark.
President Barack Obama has rejected the pipeline at least for
now.
