VALDOSTA, Ga. - South Georgia Regional Library's air conditioning unit was stripped by thieves looking to sell a valuable metal inside--copper.
According to Commander Brian Childress, the last time the South Georgia Regional Library's air conditioning unit worked properly was August 16 at 6:00 p.m.
The next day it seemed to be running fine, because the temperature inside the building was cool.
After a while, librarian Beverly Sanders noticed it was getting warmer and warmer.
She called the main office, and they sent someone to check it. The cover was lifted and the real issue was discovered. All the copper from inside the air conditioning unit was stolen.
Copper is generally sold for scrap, like aluminum from cans. However, copper sells for more than aluminum.
Detectives from the Valdosta Police department are investigating the incident.
