TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Dog Kennels at the Tallahassee-Leon County Animal Service Center will undergo renovations starting Monday.

The new dog adoption and stray dog kennels will have a new spray foam insulation put in the ceiling for health purposes.

Over 80 dogs needed to be temporarily moved and over the Fourth of July weekend 40 found new homes. The remaining 40 were fostered to families on Sunday before the shelter closed.

Families fostering dogs will be able to adopt them after the fostering process with all fees waived. But the shelter said it needs the public's help.

"We are asking the public that if you are looking to re-home your dogs or puppies to try and re-home them on your own and not bring them to the shelter this week. Right now we have very limited kennel space and so we're trying to utilize that kennel space only for stray dogs coming in," said Erika Leckington.

Kennels will reopen July 14th for surrenders, but the center still encourages the community to re-home their dogs themselves.
