ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and his Democratic challenger, U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, meet for the first time on a debate stage as the campaign enters its final weeks amid a deluge of blistering attack ads on the air.
Monday's debate at the University of Central Florida in Orlando will be aired on ABC affiliates around Florida.
The debate gives the candidates a chance to engage face-to-face for the first time after relying on attack ads to cast each other in unfavorable light.
Attack ads run against Murphy have tried to portray him as a phony, ineffective congressman who inflated his resume.
Attack ads against Rubio have described him as someone with a lousy attendance record in the U.S. Senate who is favoring cuts to social welfare programs.
