Tallahassee, FL (WTXL) Congress may have delayed the final transition to digital, but stations like ABC 27 are upgrading next week and as ABC 27's Alicia Mitchell reports, officials are asking you to be prepared.

Some broadcast stations across the US are making the move to digital February 17, opposed to the new June 12th deadline set by legislation.

It's important to prepare now.  Consumers who rely on antennas to receive television broadcasts will need converter boxes to continue watching.

"My parents just upgraded if for me. I really didn't have to do that much so I kinda had the upper hand," said Abbie Rao.

"It really doesn't matter, I have satellite but it's a great thing for the nation," said Ti Dawkins.

DTY enables broadcasters to offer television with better picture and sound quality. But with the economy in a downward spiral some local residents feel congress should practice patience and delay the transition again.

"Let's just wait to the United States gets our money together and then we can upgrade. Everybody is just out there to get money that nobody has," said Danielle.

And February 11th representatives of the Federal Communications Commission will hold an Ask the FCC event at the Tallahassee Best Buy store to inform consumers about the transition to digital television.
