On Friday 07/23/10 at approximately 2:47pm, LCSO Deputies responded to a report of a church burglary. Due to the quick response of patrol deputies and detectives, Detective Cedric Tryman of the LCSO's Burglary Unit observed the suspect vehicle. He initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect began to drive in an erratic manner subsequently eluding deputies. Multiple LCSO units including Air Support and K-9 responded to the area to assist. Shortly after losing sight of the suspect vehicle, a patrol unit came upon it in the 5600 Block of Blountstown Hwy. The suspect had apparently abandoned the vehicle in a vacant lot. Units remained in the area searching for the suspect.
At approximately 4:07pm LCSO received a report about a vehicle, Red Dodge Truck, being stolen from the area of Mandy Lane and Aenon Church Road. The description provided of the suspect matched the description of the alleged burglary suspect LCSO units were searching for.
Based on information gathered while investigating these incidents, Ricky J. Zachery was developed as the suspect. The investigation continued in efforts to locate Zachery.
On Saturday 07/24/10 at approximately 9:25am while on patrol, Dep. Darren Wood observed the stolen truck in the area of Westway Road and Capital Circle SW. He initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop and again attempted to elude deputies. Multiple units again assisted and Zachery was later located and arrested. Zachery admitted to his actions, as well as two other unrelated incidents. Due to the circumstances surrounding the initial reported church burglary, Zachery has not been charged with that crime. That investigation is ongoing.
